The Creative Space Beirut students took part in a national competition sponsored by Persil titled ‘Start From Sketch’ which included students from four other fashion design schools in Lebanon; CAMM, AUST, NDU and the Academy of Fashion.
The participants used recycled clothing to design and execute an outfit inspired by the theme ‘Heal the World’. The idea was to address sustainability through economic and social progress, youth empowerment and the creative arts, promoting environmentally conscious fashion design through up-cycling.
Our students worked hard and challenged themselves as they un-knitted and re-knitted sweaters, created unique patchwork, and cleverly reworked pants into tops. After months of work, of the 8 participating CSB students, 5 were chosen amongst 25 finalists.
The competition finale was held at a fashion show on May 25th. The 25 finalists’ outfits were judged by a jury of respected designers and artists. All 5 of the CSB finalists were among the top 10, and our students Rony el Helou and Rola Mezher were awarded first and second place! Rony will be travelling to Milan for a two-week intensive design workshop while Rola will be attending Paris fashion week in September.
