Parsons 560 is excited to profile our very own fashion design faculty member, Mark Brower. Mark teaches Junior Concepts at Parsons New School for Design. He feels that it is his job to help the students form their own opinions, in order to come into their own sense of design. He pushes his students to develop their inner-critic, in order to self-analyze their own work. As an adjunct faculty member and Parsons alumnus, Mark recently had his bridal gown design land the cover of Weddings Unveiled Magazine.
Mark has been a wedding gown designer for Priscilla of Boston for the past 5 years. He was specifically appointed to create the Vineyard Collection, which is an affordable line of gorgeous bridal gowns. He designs about 16-18 gowns per season, with two seasons per year. Before Priscilla of Boston, Mark worked for Vera Wang, designing both Ready to Wear and Evening.
For his bridal designs, he loves beading, embroidery and being inventive. The newest collection is focused on lean and soft silhouettes. He never wants his gowns to be too extravagant, because after all, the focus should be on the bride! Here’s a look at Mark’s current inspiration:
The dress on the cover of Fall 2010’s Weddings Unveiled: Inspiring Styles for Southern Weddings Magazine is a satin strapless gown with a smocked taffeta bolero jacket. Stunning! Any student interested in bridal should keep an eye out for Mark’s classes. Congratulations, Mark!
