In my Visual Merchandising class we are looking at how designers tell stories. Whether it’s a storefront window or a presentation of merchandise on a table or a designer’s runway, how something is displayed has to tell a story. Last week when all eyes were on the runway mine were focused on the back drops. This photograph was taken at Vera Wang’s Spring 2013 show. When you think about it, the runway show is the first attempt at displaying product. As soon as I saw it I was struck by the hard angles of the back drop’s construction and I enjoyed the contrast of the soft, warm and romantic nature of the enlarged fabric print. The clothing was intricate and luxurious and the collection has been described by Vogue as rich and opulent- not a bad story to tell.
