Talking Textiles Seminar: The Prize, The Seminar, The Exhibit

TALKING-TEXTILES-SEMINAR-Poster-1Since 2011, TALKING TEXTILES has been an initiative by Lidewij Edelkoort & Philip Fimmano that promotes creative textiles.

Exhibitions and seminars bring attention to the plight of the textile industry and educate professionals and consumers alike about the importance of fabric design today.

The inaugural inspiring & educational half-day TALKING TEXTILES TREND SEMINAR is taking place on MAY 13, 2015. Lidewij Edelkoort & Philip Fimmano and other speakers will be talking about fashion & home textiles: trends, fabrics, yarns & techniques for the coming seasons. The seminar will culminate with the announcement of the Dorothy Waxman Textile Design Prize 2015.

1:25pm – TEXTILES 101: an introduction to defining quality textiles from Patrice George, Textile Development and Marketing, Fashion Institute of Technology

2:05pm – JACQUARDS 101: a look at the heritage & technical possibilities of jacquards by Andrea Favaretto Rubelli, RUBELLI

2:45pm – TOUCH BREAK: attendees will be able to touch textile samples onsite

3:00pm – WOOL 101: the natural fiber’s processing and innovation in areas from fashion to activewear will be explored by Angela Domsitz, Woolmark

3:40pm – STUDIO 101: the basics of the hand-loom studio introduced by Owyn Ruck, Textile Arts Center

4:20pm – EMOTION 101: “The Fabrics of Life” audiovisual presentation by Li Edelkoort

4:50pm – 2015 DOROTHY WAXMAN TEXTILE DESIGN PRIZE announcement

The event will end at approximately 5:00pm.
