We are proud to announce that April’s Student of the Month is Rachel Feinberg, a senior at Parsons The New School for Art and Design. Rachel’s website is DAMNsel.co and she focuses on fashion design for social change. Her “Pussy Pouch” has gotten a lot of attention on social media recently and we’re glad we had the chance to ask her a few questions.
What is your name, or any nicknames you go by?
Rachel Feinberg.
Where are you from?
Los Angeles, California.
What brought you to Parsons?
My interest for fashion.
What special courses are you taking?
I am currently in Thesis now but I have taken Zero Waste, Design Communication, and Design for Social Change.
If you could offer one piece of advice to an incoming student, what would that be?
Breathe and don’t take any thing too seriously. Definitely, save your money for thesis. It is not worth spending money on expensive or difficult fabrics in the beginning. Study abroad or take a summer course at Central Saint Martins.
What are you going to be doing over the weekend?
This weekend I will be adding final touches to my thesis. If I finish enough I will take a cirque class.
How would you describe your experience so far as a Parsons student?
Parsons was the best decision I ever made. The past four years have also been the most exhausting years of my life. But, I am grateful Parsons taught me to love learning in subjects far beyond fashion.
What is one of the most important things you have learned/experienced at Parsons?
To disregard others opinions and do what I believe. I have a niche audience and not everyone will always understand my designs.
What is your website/ Instagram?
DAMNsel.co. and my Instagram is RachelLipstick.
