Madam Keiko’s Original Hand-Knit Collection “FREE and EASY” – The Artistic World Painted by Yarn and Knitting Needle instead of Brush

The creations of Keiko Kashiwagi, better known as Madam Keiko – one of Japan’s most talented hand-knit designers, reveal her great originality and deep aesthetic sensibility

Developing her talents early in childhood, her love for knitting was picked up endearingly from her mother at a young and influential age. For more than 40 years she has continued knitting whole-heartedly, creating hundreds of unique pieces of work. Her works, knitted with a complicated weave and often by glittering thread, are inspiringly elegant and gorgeous. A compilation of photographs, entitled “MADAM KEIKO Original Hand-Knit Collection” was published by Ondorisha Publishers in 2006, highlighting her bounty of intricate pieces created over four decades.

This celebrated publication showcasing her knit-works alongside her accompanying essays became a much-talked-about book among knitting lovers. Gaining further international attention, her knit-works, abundant with Japanese traditional patterns, were highly evaluated for their “Japanese Taste” at the 2010 solo exhibition held in Milan.

The Nippon Club is pleased to showcase at their exhibition ten pieces of her works with Japanese traditional patterns as well as twenty pieces created as modern art. We invite you to come and enjoy the elegant knit-works created by the original technique and handwork of Madam Keiko.
