Lie Sang Bong: Fashion, Art, and Korean culture

Join us Thursday, February 9th @ 7PM, The Theater at MAD 2 Columbus Circle, New York City to meet acclaimed Korean designer Lie Sang Bong, whose worldwide clientele for avant-garde clothing includes celebrities like Lady Gaga and Beyonce. He will discuss a career that spans more than two decades, in which he has combined a keen fashion sense, an artist’s vision, and inspiration from his Korean roots. Using a multi-media presentation, Lie will illustrate the many influences of Korean culture—including traditional paintings, calligraphy, and architecture—in his designs.

About the Designer:

Lie Sang Bong is one of the most innovative fashion designers in the world. The venerable Korean fashion designer began his womenswear brand in 1985 and premiered his debut line at Seoul Fashion Week in 1993. Soon after, Lie quickly caught the eyes of Korea’s most notable fashionistas. Just a few years later in 1999, the mayor of Seoul named him the “Best Designer of the Year”, acknowledging the perpetual creativity and growing commercial success that set him above his peers. His 2002 Prêt- à-Porter Collection debut in Paris successfully launched his signature designs in the Paris market. He has been based in both Paris and Seoul ever since.

Lie’s avant-garde clothing has been seen throughout the world and some of the biggest celebrities you can think of, including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Juliette Binoche, Yuna Kim, and South Korea’s First Lady have worn his garments. He’s been featured in numerous publications including Le Figaro, Telegraph, The New York Times, Vogue, Vanity Fair and W Magazine, and notably collaborated with top Korean companies such as Samsung, LG, and Kumho Group to create “Lie Sang Bong” limited editions of mobile phones, computers, home décor, and interior design.
