CSE: Crystallized Swarovski Elements.
CSE partnered with the School of Fashion on two incredible projects last Spring 2009. The first was a costume project entitled Monarchs in History offered to BFA Fashion Design seniors. Sketch submissions ranged from Elvis the King to Helen of Troy. Judges from Saks and Swarovski had the difficult choice to select eight finalists.
CSE provided $1000 worth of crystals for each costume, then students fabricated their unique designs. The spectacular garments were displayed in a window exhibit at Saks Fifth Avenue, New York City. The grand prize-winning window was entitled, “Elvis the King” by student Ivy Kirk, who received a check for $2,500. All 8 winning entry garments are currently touring Swarovski stores.

The second project formed the basis of instructor Julia Poteat’s AAS Fashion Design Accessory course. Students were challenged to design Avant Garde accessories and received $250 worth of crystals to make their prototypes. Judges from Bloomingdales and Swarovski selected pieces to move forward to final fabrication and one grand Prizewinner, Sarah Creagh, received $1,500 and $500 worth of crystal components. Two runners up, Amanda De Cruz and Nicole Neeb, each received $500 and $250 worth of crystal components. The three winning designs were showcased in an exhibit at Bloomingdales highlighting the re-launch of their accessories floor in October/November 2009.
