One of Parsons BFA and MFA alumni, Paula Cheng, has won a spot as a finalist in the International Talent Support (ITS) competition, 2013. This is the first time a Parsons alumni has placed, and with a selection of over 1500 entries, Paula deserves a big round of applause. She started at Parsons in the BFA Fashion Design program, where she struggled to fit into the Seventh Avenue mold of fashion designers, popular at the time of her studies.
She quickly enrolled in month-long summer intensives, between her junior and senior year, in Belgium and also Paris. During these intensives, is where Paula found her footing, in the avant-garde and also textile based knitting which comes to define her work today.
Paula’s MFA collection has received numerous press coverage, including Vogue Italia, and Not Just a Label. Her MFA knitwear collection was exclusively sponsored by Italian luxury yarn company, Lanifico Dell’Olivo, s.p.a.
We look forward to hearing about her participation in the ITS conference, held July 11-13 in Trieste, Italy. Good luck and congratulations again!
