Mac & Milk Panel

There is an exciting and extremely timely panel being presented by MAC & Milk at Milk Studios – 450 W 15th St. on February 11th at 11 AM. We will be discussing launching fashion businesses as well as increasing production and commerce in the Garment Centre and it will be entitled; “What Should We Be Doing?”  To ensure a lively discussion the panel will also feature Tommy Hilfiger, Stephanie Rosenbloom, a reporter for the New York Times, Jeff Rudes, Founder and CEO of J Brand jeans, Andrew Rosen, Co-CEO and President of Theory and designer Rogan Gregory.

As an institution based in the Garment Centre, it is clear that our location provides an additional educational experience to our students that simply cannot be found anywhere else. In fact, Proenza Schouler, Narciso Rodriguez and Isaac Mizrahi all started their businesses in the Garment Centre and continue production here today.

What can we do in New York? And as creatives, cannot be done elsewhere and what will give us the innovative edge over the rest of the world?  Globally, President Obama addressed the issue  of expanding product creation in the United States in his recent State of the Union Address, so what can we do?

The subject and subsequent discussion will be one that our students will have to continue in the years to come as they forge their own careers and companies.  Therefore,  it is critical that they begin the discussion at this panel if they have not already started thinking of it on their own.  As educators we would be remiss in not understanding and emphasizing the vital role that New York City and particularly the Garment Centre plays in our students education and not encouraging a dialogue on an issue whose importance will not only be felt locally but globally.
