Parsons The New School for Design: School of Fashion is looking for dynamic, design oriented individuals to teach at New York’s premier design school. Renowned for its excellence, the BFA Fashion Design program has evolved through the years to respond to and challenge the growing field of fashion.

We are looking for people who have demonstrated skill and design expertise across a number of areas in regard to both visual communication and creative technical construction. Specifically we are seeking part-time faculty to teach across the following courses within the BFA Fashion Design program: Visual Communication Studio, Creative Technical Studio and Design Studio. Although prior teaching experience is preferred, applicants with no prior teaching experience may apply if their professional practice speaks to qualities listed below. Minimum Qualifications:

Baseline qualifications required across all courses:

  • An advanced degree in Fashion design discipline or equivalent relevant professional industry experience.
  • A strong record of recent professional practice in the creative field of fashion design, particularly with interdisciplinary engagement or a variety of entry points into fashion design.
  • Knowledge of fashion and applied materiality appropriate to fashion production terminology, textiles, and materials.

Course specific additional qualifications required:

Visual Communication Studio:

  • Two-dimensional image creation through drawing and digital media
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign
  • Working knowledge of techniques of observational drawing

Creative Technical Studio:

  • Ability to navigate between 2D, 3D and 4D processes
  • Experience of creatively designed technical solutions in garment making

Design Studio:

  • Ability to translate a variety of design aesthetics using multi method design approaches
  • Familiarity with methods of observational and primary research in order to investigate design problems
