Ceramics & Wet Shop

We are open by appointment only this fall.

Orientations will not be offered in the Fall Semester. Students who were oriented in the past will retain access (see eligibility and requirements).

Please follow the building selection and testing steps outlined the access protocol carefully, then fill out the pre-consultation form. This information will help the Wet Shop staff provide support to students request accessing in the Wet Shop Space.

Note: You must have completed Wet Shop orientations to request appointments.

During your consultation, the technician will speak with you about your project, direct you to the best resources to support your work, and assist you in requesting your space reservation via Libcal.  The technician can also help you reserve additional tools needed for your days on campus.

Every work zone will come equipped with a water bucket, sponge, and all materials/tools that we’re previously confirmed during the consultation. Items will be set up prior to students arriving for their appointments.

You are responsible for sanitizing tools prior to, and after use with wipes that are available throughout the Wet Shop. All sanitation will happen at the work zone, sink areas will not be communal spaces for this semester.

The Ceramic and Wet Shop is a facility dedicated to supporting art and design practices in ceramic and casting based processes. Other wet based processes are also supported in the wet studio portion of the facility – including mold making, concrete casting, silicone casting, wheel throwing, hand-building, slip casting, kiln glasswork, etc.

A number of classes make use of the Wet Shop as a part of their curriculum.  We encourage students to enroll in a dedicated class to gain the skills they need to pursue ceramics or casting based work.  We do allow students with prior experience or students engaging in self-directed learning to access the shop after taking the necessary safety orientation(s).  Please note that the shop staff is able to answer some questions, but is unable to provide demos or tutorials for individuals or classes.
